"I field tested the first version of this hat by taking it to the desert - Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park. I am partial towards Panama and believed that the big-brim would be perfect for this climate. I ran into a problem however when the wind kicked up; the big-brim being caught by gusts and blowing the hat off my head. Adding this very nifty, high-quality, chin-cord to the hat's second-run was a major improvement. It can be easily affixed to the hat or removed at will. One more point: You may be familiar with my article on determining the quality and price of Panama hats. Implied in the article, but not addressed explicitly, is the fact that the bigger the brim, the more work required to make these hand-woven bodies. Panama hats with brims of this size - just shy of 4 inches - are not easy to come by.
