This is a great top hat. A couple of things to consider: 1) Style - This is an awesome classic-looking formal black topper. Not quite as shiny as a satin one would be, but lovely fur felt. 2) Color - Don't worry that the online photo makes it look rather greyish, the hat really is black. The photo looks to have been lifted directly from the Bollman website, which has a black background, so I expect the Bollman people probably tweaked it a bit to make it show up better on their site. 3) Fit - Seems slightly smaller than expected, but that's fine with me. I measured my head size at 23.5", which ought to have put me at the small end of XL. Also, my head is narrowish. So I expected the XL to be on the loose side of OK, perhaps with space on the sides. But it actually fits me extremely well, just snug enough without being too tight (hopefully, I'll still feel this way after wearing it for an extended period), and with no gaps on the sides. So no need for hat sizers on this one! 4) The presentation box - Each hat in Bollman's 140 collection comes in a special hat box, which is huge and rectangular (there is a picture of it on the Bollman website). This box is excellent as a shipping container, but is not ideal for regular easy access. Of course a fur felt black topper is not a hat I'll be wearing every day, so that isn't really a problem. |

| I was absolutely impressed with my Bollman 140-1880s Topper when it arrived, and it arrived quite quickly. I bought it to wear as part of a costume in our local parades and events but this hat is so nice I am looking for more events to dress up and wear it too! I've never owned a hat that deserved to be stored in its own hat box. This one does and it came in a great storage box. This hat and I will have a long future together. | ||||
