I don't doubt that the Village Hat Shop is a fine dealer nor do I doubt that the Jaxon beret is a fine beret, but I wouldn't dream of banding my head with plastic, even a narrow strip: I intensely dislike plastic against my skin for one thing, but also plastic can't stretch and mold to my head like leather. Also, the sizing in S, M, L. XL is way to iffy - a practice shared by other dealers in the U.S. ******Village Hat Shop note: (The Jaxon Basque Beret is leather, but the manufacturer has added a thin red synthetic strip on top of the sweatband)

It's too large so I had to stuff cardboard inside/behind the lining to make it smaller. I'm not happy with the quality of the headband either.

I got this for my husband who has worn a size 7 5/8 hat to work everyday for more than 20 years. He was really looking forward to this quality beret, but it was huge -- one, maybe two sizes too large.

the beret was way too big, even after closely following the sizing instructions. Also the styling was not what I imagined an authentic beret to be.

I had a problem with size. The first beret I received I returned for replacement due to defective lining stitching. It was a large , but was a little tight. When I received the second beret, it was a bit too large, but I have kept it. I guess my head is in between as to sizes. Other than letting my hair grow, I don't know what can be done. Any suggestions?

First I ordered a large, but couldn't get it on; then ordered an XL and it fell over my eyes. After paying postage on both hats I decided to take it to my tailor rather than spend more money shipping it back. The tailor had to make it 1/2 " smaller. The hat's is neat,but the quality control on size is awful and it's the customer that ends up paying it!

The sweatband may be leather, but looks and feels like vinyl. When I tried to remove the white "dry clean" label, the lining came loose, and had to be re-attatched. I would advise one to just tolerate it, even though that label is very unsightly! The beret is not true to size, but rather, runs large. (I plan to put a facing beneath the band to make it fit a bit closer.) I'm hoping that given time and wear, it will become more comfortable.

Bought the Jaxon Basque Beret for a male friend of mine who normally wears a size 7 7/8. This corresponded to a XXL on the size chart. My friend says the beret feels too big, but a size XL will probably be too small. So the conclusion is the sizing just isn't precise enough to make a good fit. Try another brand that doesn't use the S, M, L, etc. convention.

The beret is beautifully made but I find it impossible to wear. It sits on your head like a pancake and feels like it is going to fly off like a frisbee. I tried tugging it down on my head but somehow that doesn't work--maybe because the beret is not deep. Maybe it should come with a staple gun.

The beret is much too big. I thought I was ordering my size - measured my head. I got sick and missed the 30 day time limit for exchanges, so I'm stuck with it. It falls off my head if I take even a single step. I'll look for a company with a different policy. It seems to be well constructed and the wool is nice.
