A pith helmet is THE type of headgear to wear in extremely hot and/or humid climates. The unique suspension keeps the helmet itself away from your head and allows air to circulate inside--only the leather sweatband makes contact. The helmet itself is very light and you'll likely forget that you're wearing it. These are a bargain and it's amazing that you can still find a classic genuine pith helmet in this age of baseball caps and polyester! Thanks Village Hat Shop! |

| safari hat (3/5) | Aug 16, 2010 | jarles alberg | raleigh | |
| It's an interesting hat, and looks cool. I bought my hat size, but I recommend you buy 1/2 size larger, as the whole point of a substantial hat is to allow the hat to be knocked around and the headband to be a shock absorber, much like a hard hat. I have to wear my hat backwards as it is too small to wear the right way, and doesn't stay off my head, as it fits a little tight. I thought the cork would make it insulated, but it just holds your head heat in. I wore it in intense heat, and all the moisture kept running down the front of the hat onto my face. I understand you can soak it in water, and it is cooler, but when you are working with your head tilted down instead of walking with your head upright, water and sweat will still run down your face. I will be going back to my straw safari hats, as I like the lightness of them on my head, and the sweat soaks into my hat, not running down my face. I usually tuck a paper towel into the front of the sweatband, and it absorbs any extra sweat. I like a solid hat with a spacious headband because I often hit my head on things such as branches etc when I am working outdoors. I have lots of billed hats, but they all get sweat ruined in days. I will wear my hat when I need to pretend to be pompous, so all is not lost, and the straw hats are much cheaper | ||||
| wearable air-conditioning (5/5) | Aug 12, 2010 | Steven | ||
| If this hat is kept wet it will keep the wearer cool in even the slightest breeze. The chin strap is not really needed, however the buckle is a little flimsy for my liking. This makes the chin strap entirely decorative. | ||||
| African Pith Helmet (5/5) | Jun 29, 2010 | Stelle Smith | Ocean NJ US | |
| awesome hat. I only wish that the headband had like a terry cloth section that I could wet so that it would evaporate and make me cooler. it is; however, a really nice hat | ||||

| Arrived quickly and in great condition. Product matched it's picture and description. Bought it for my dad as a gift; he is going to Egypt and it was just what he was looking for! He loved it and I would absolutely recommend this hat and the Village Hat Shop! | ||||
| Safari-So-Goodi (5/5) | Oct 21, 2009 | Barnia Scruggs | Gallatin Te US | |
| Super purchase!! I bought a khaki African Safari helmet and a white British Zulu helmet and received both quickly and in excellent condition. The packaging was very protective and items were received exactly as described. I am very pleased with the quality of both. Thanks again. | ||||
| Africa Re Deux (5/5) | Sep 4, 2009 | Lucy Nash | San Diego CA US | |
| I bought a pith helmet from another vender to take on Safari. It was a cheap knock-off that did not perform well. Since I plan to return to Africa, I looked for a better quality hat. I found it with this one. I can hardly wait to put it to the test. | ||||
| Decent hat (4/5) | Aug 30, 2009 | Eric | Everett WA US | |
| The hat is self is nice. There was a bug chew hole and some bug poop on the white cloth band, the holes in the top did not all line up (easy to fix myself) and it does not fit quite right. Other than that the hat is self is good and does the trick. | ||||
| Conservatory Hat (5/5) | Aug 10, 2009 | Kylie B | Scaroborough Ql | |
| I bought this hat to decorate my conservatory. I live in a Bahamas style beach house. My glass conservatory overlooks the beach. I had a bird cage, and other things, but needed a few more things. I saw the movie 'Australia' and was inspired by their conservatory, and the man wearing the African Pith Helmet. I thought it would go perfectly in my room. Also, it's wearable, should I have the need for it! | ||||
| Outstanding (5/5) | Jun 14, 2009 | James N Samms | Sacramento CA US | |
| This was my first order from Village Hat Shop. This pith helmet fulfilled a many years old desire, and I must say I have absolutely no regrets. This product is well made and is so inexpensive that one just can't go wrong. Believe it! | ||||
