Brixton Hat designs convey a lot of character, which is primo consideration for any new addition to my collection. So, I have accumulated several samplings from this California based company that has shown it has a grip on providing popular styles. New styles and variations appear on a regular basis, and so I'm always interested in watching what new entries become available. The Dutch Boy or Fiddler Hats always get my immediate attention since Brixton provides this style in a variety of colors and materials not available from the other Fiddler Hat suppliers who commonly provide them in established color offerings that never change. While Brixton's variation in this design has a lower crown than the originals, they still sit on the top shelf with a couple of the others, but it's the available color combinations that have the Brixtons standing out above all the rest. The previous version had a black visor with khaki canvas top, and I was very quick to pick up on this newer version with the blue visor because it goes well with the blue uniform that I wear at work. This hat tops it off, and in my opinion, it should be a part of the uniform. Anyway, I am sure to purchase another. But... one must be prepared for some disappointment if you are expecting the colors as described by the Brixton ad writer. The grey might not be so grey at all, but khaki instead, and that Royal Blue visor shown for this cap is not such a light shade of blue at all, but a dark Navy Blue instead. Additionally, the khaki that they describe on other hats might not be so khaki at all, but an olive drab instead! What you see in these pictures on your computer screen is probably closer to what you get according to Brixton's published color descriptions, but even then, that is not always entirely accurate either. The second disappointment may be in hat sizing. According to the sizing chart below the picture of this hat the medium size includes sizes 7 - 7 1/8. This medium would fit me perfectly if the hats sent to me would match this description, but every Brixton hat I have ever ordered has arrived with a distinct 7 1/4 sizing label attached to the inside rear of its head band. Inserting sizing spacers always resolves this little inconvenience for me, but I'm at a loss as to why Brixton hats sized at 7 1/8 just can't be sent to me instead. I guess I don't rate. |
