This is a great hat. Very comfortable with good interior "head room". The chin cord stays out of the way but is very easy to access when needed. Cord is a bit hard to replace, however. I have not yet tried wearing this hat in the rain; it's my summer hat. I get many compliments when wearing the hat; more accurately, the HAT gets the compliments. I've only had my hat since the summer of 2007 so I can not report on its durability.
Great Hat (5/5) Apr 20, 2008 Dudley Bacon Flagstaff AZ US
This is the third Riverz hat I have owned. I like the dapper style, the rigidity and the adjustable fit. In a day when most manufacturers don't have a clue about traditional hat sizing, it's a relief to find a hat that fits the head size it is advertised to fit.

I have finally found my hat store. The Village Hat Shop has a marvelous collection of styles and prices. I won't look anywhere else in the future.

Interesting that the only other review of this hat is also from Flagstaff, Arizona. We must collectively have good taste.
Great hat (5/5) Apr 22, 2008 R N McCarter Sequim WA US
This hat is as close to perfect as you can get. Water doesn't harm it. It is crushable, looks sharp, and it is cool. I wore it all over Italy last summer. I won't leave home without it.
Fabulous hat (5/5) Apr 22, 2008 Frank Gavett Hamilton NY US
I've had melanoma, and I take my hats and other sun-protection gear seriously. This is the most versatile and comfortable warm weather hat I've ever owned. I have had many compliments on it, and no one can believe that is made of polypropylene.

It is both a relatively cool straw hat and a good wet weather hat for keeping the rain off my glasses. Its chief distinction from a traditional straw hat is that a traditional hat will be ruined in the rain. By way of contrast, on a particularly hot day I run the Riverz Delta under cold water and let the susequent evaporation enhance the cooling properties of the hat.

I have had the hat badly crushed and folded when one of my daughter's friends sat on it for several hours in the back seat of our car. A light application of steam -- not too much lest the polypropylene melt -- allowed me to reshape it perfectly. Under more normal conditions this flexible hat recovers immediately and without attention from crushing, for example from someone's siting on it or from a short trip in a tote bag.

Securing the drawstring at the back of the head, in the fashion of state police trooper hats, secures the Riverz has quite well in most windy conditions. For stronger winds it can be secured under the chin. The loop at the back of the band works well for keeping the drawstring out of the way when not needed.

Suggestion for improvement: I would like to see Riverz bring back their Optimo model so that I could have a truly packable/rollable hat with the other great qualities of the Delta.

I bought this for a fishing hat, but it looks so nice that I wear it for other activities as well. It is an extremely comfortable hat, and is the best fitting hat that I own. I think anyone will be very pleased with this hat.
A Bone in the Nose (5/5) May 21, 2009 David Van Wye Loganville Ge US
Great quality hat for the money! Wear it daily for protection from the sun. I would get less looks if I had a bone in my nose! Get "great hat" comments almost every time out.
Lives up to the hype (5/5) Aug 14, 2009 Craig Dallas
The hat is great. Looks and feels just like straw, but is tough as nails. Got it just before a trip to the beach, where it excelled in the sun and the rain. Friend of mine saw it and wants one. It looks good and is very comfortable. I found the sizing chart to be accurate. Expect to have this hat for years for various adventures.
Sharp and Practical (5/5) Dec 14, 2009 Stan Williams Oxon Hill Md US
My wife bought this hat for me after several attempts at local mens stores. My buddies wont get this one. The size of the brim as well as the crown makes it a style that transends generations. I thought it would be hot because of the weight but the vents at the top allow just enough air. Great for fishing, sightseeing as well as can be worn with a summer suit.
Great Hat (5/5) Aug 17, 2010 Chuck St. Petersburg FL US
I work outside in the Florida sun and must wear a hat to avoid baking my brain. I've always had problems finding a hat that fits me properly. The Riverz Delta is the best hat I've ever owned. It fits perfectly and is tough as nails. The only problem is that the adjustable hat band shrinks after it's been wet, and it's too tight when dry. So I just hose off the hat in the morning, shake out the excess water, and it's good to go for the day. Plus, the water evaporation keeps me cooler. The price is a bit steep, but you get what you pay for, and this hat is worth every penny.
(And, it's made in the USA:)
Hat has it all (5/5) Aug 22, 2010 Ken Ne US
This hat has everything you would ever want in a straw hat; looks great, fits great, cool, holds it's shape. I use it for fishing and in town.
