We can tell you from our early 1980s experience with hats from Guatemalan, sewn-braid palm, that this was a material with great unrealized potential until SunBody came along . The material was always tough, a great hat for both sun and rain. Now there are very creative styles and features, a full range of sizes, and the consistency that this product needed. Sunbody likes to promote "Fun", but this hat is very practical too.

IMPORTANT FEATURES

1. Sewn-braid, palm-leaf hats are tough. The overlapping layers of palm braid form an almost impenetrable sun block. When they get wet, the hat stiffens and keeps its shape making it a great hat for the river or in the rain.
2. The hats are easily re-shaped with plain water-no steam is required. One needs to simply imerse the hat in water and re-work the shape by hand. Note however that the sharpest creases for the crown are obtained by wooden blocks.
3. A horse can step on one and if the hoof doesn't cut completely through the crown, you can pop it back out and keep wearing it.

This is a lot of hat for the money. Each unit is signed on an interior label; the craftsperson in Guatemala takes great pride in his or her handiwork.
