Here's a history lesson: In Istanbul the checheya was called 'fez' or 'phecy' while the modern Egyptian version was called 'tarboosh' (pronounced tar-boosh) a derivative from the Persian words 'sar' meaning head and 'poosh' meaning cover.
It was basically a brimless, cone-shaped, flat-topped hat made of felt.
Originating in Fez, Morocco, later it was adopted in Istanbul where the color of the fez stuck to red.
6" tall, the top of the hat has a diameter of 5 3/4".
The black tassel is an inch thick and the fringe is 10" long.
Four concentric circle perforations surround the base of the tassel, for ventilation.
Sizes: 6 7/8 to 7 7/8.
