This hat goes by various names. Most call it an ivy cap or ivy hat. Some refer to it as a driving cap (think of a drive in the country in a small English sports car). Others only know it as a golf cap (picture the old photos of mid-20th Century golfers). In the UK, it is commonly known as a flat cap or flat hat. Because of the current popularity of newsboy hats or newsboy caps, some extend the name to include this style, however the newsboy hat is a different cut-and-sewn pattern--eight panels with a button in the center of the crown.
