Short for "Australian," Aussie style hats are a variation of the classic Fedora Hat and are often intended for practical, outdoor use (such as for the famously rugged Australian Outback, for example). Aussie Hats usually comprise of a high pinch crown with a wide and flat (or slightly down-sloping) brim, ideal for keeping the hot sun off your face and neck. Oftentimes an adjustable chin cord/strap completes the look for added protection against strong gusts of wind. 

Due to their (commonly) utilitarian nature, Aussie Hats are typically made of durable cloth such as cotton twill/canvas or high-performance fabrics, though they can also be made of wool felt, fur felt, leather, or straw. Other useful features such as vented paneling, ventilation grommets, and/or brim snaps to fasten the brim up at one or both sides are also common.
