Boater Hats

A classic feminine style since the 1800s, Boater Hats commonly comprise of an oblong or round crown with a flat top and straight sides (aka "square crown") and wide brim, usually upturned or "curled." Alternatively, Boater Hats might have a wide flat or slightly down-turned brim. The iconic women's Boater Hat is derived from men's Skimmer Hats and is traditionally made of straw trimmed with a black ribbon hat band tied into a back bow - think the hat worn by Madeline in the eponymous classic children's book series.

Straw Boater Hats are a timeless and casual spring and summer style; however, the style is also a popular dress hat silhouette and available in felt and other cozy materials for fall and winter.
