Handwoven in Ecuador; Finished in the USA

UPF 50+ Sun Protection

Exclusive to Jaxon Hats, the Jaxon Panama Working Hat is designed in California, the hat bodies are handwoven in Ecuador and the hats are blocked and finished in Massachusetts.

Panama hats are usually a combination of the world reknown material, Panama straw, and high-class traditional styling. We thought, "Why not make a Panama hat that is also functional?"

This is the result:

  1. A wide brim for better sun protection. (The weavers in Ecuador had to make the hat body with a 6-inch brim so that the finishing in the USA could be done to the correct brim width. This allowed for the underwelt at the brim's edge, cutting of excess material, etc.)
  2. The "Uncrushable Insert" in the crown. We still suggest handling this hat by the brim and not the crown, but the insert protects against cracking by normal wear.
  3. The hat is sprayed with a water & stain repellent which gives extra protection to the straw.
  4. Our USA manufacturer helped us develop the detachable chincord. On calm days, remove it. On slightly windy days, put the chincord behind your head catching under your hairline. On very windy days, fit under you chin. Updated model has added grommets in the holes where the hardware attaches.

"This is the hat I wear daily. It serves me exceptionally well." -Fred Belinsky, VHS Founder [1948-2014]

Please Note: Hats, particularly straw hats, should never be handled by the crown. Hats should always be handled only by the brim. Constant pinching or handling of its crown creates stains and, in the case of straw hats, will result in cracking after some time. See our HAT CARE page for more information and other care tips.
