Deadman Wool Felt Top Hat

Sizing is not correct. I ordered a large based off of their size chart measurements. I clearly needed a size smaller.

The hat itself looks fantastic. The sizing is tricky even following their guidelines. I called in with my measurements and the size they recommended was too small.

You will notice that there S,M,L etc are not conventional hence they say the sizes run large, which they do. However in that context the size number they list runs a little bit small. For example the 7 3/8 barely fit me at 57.5 cm

This hat made my daughter's outfit complete. She drives the wedding carriage. I knew I could depend on Viliage Hats to get the perfect hat.

Bought this hat for costume, it was well made, a bit big, but I used thin, flat foam strip and tucked it under hat band. ( trick i use for all my hats) It fits perfect now.

Well, since that one's almost $200 I wanted to buy a less expensive version, which this is! Came sooner than expected, and the hat is spectacular! Will be ordering the top hat soon as I'm wearing this one like crazy and getting compliments left and right!

This is a great hat.. it fits perfectly, is beyond cool and gets more compliments than you can possibly imagine. Today, as I was crossing a parking lot wearing a long black overcoat, scarf and the hat; a gent passed in his car, rolled down the window and yelled 'you look like somebody who should be in London!' Gotta love it.

i wear (perfectly) a jaxon small (i have a 6 3/4 head) and despite what the village website says, this hat, in small, fits me perfectly. and, believe me, when i wear it on the golf course, heads turn !!!

I am waiting until after the holidays and return the hat and get the next size larger. I like the hat it is just too small for my huge head.

The hat was much better than expected. They said they run large and they do. I am glad I ordered XL . Definately love the hat.

The hat sizing for this product is complete inaccurate. The standard size chart doesn't apply and the special instructions doesn't reflect the true size of the hats. This needs to be corrected after returning the purchase I still don't have a hat that fits.

This "Dead Man" top hat is cool. It fits me perfectly and looks great. The quality is outstanding! You usually think top hat = formal, but this hat looks great with a wide variety of styles. Please don't be afraid to order one size smaller than normal like the site says. I wear a 3XL hat, and the 2XL Dead Man fits perfectly, as if it were custom made for my head. I'll definitely be hat shopping at Village Hat Shop again.

I love the Deadman Hat, it's my favorite. I can't make it fit my head right. I think I may have to take a grinder to my head to reshape it. Jaxon hat's are the best.

My head measured exactly 22 1/4" so I ordered the medium size and also the terry cloth hat sizers in case it ran too large as stated in some reviews. The hat fit perfectly without having to use the sizers but I'm keeping the sizers in case I need them for future purchases. I get nothing but several compliments when wearing this hat and it looks great. Fantastic quality also. Could not be happier with this purchase.

I just got the Deadman Top Hat I ordered. It was perfect and I love it. It is exactly what I was looking for and it fit very well. The biggest problem was measuring my noggin so I got the size right. This hat is perfect in every way. It fits my son like a glove thanks to the guides to help determine size. It is beautiful. Better than could be expected. He wears it to school and to work. He is the talk of the town - the tall kid, (he's 6'4"), with the hat!

I received a well packaged Deadman tophat. The quality seems to be rather nice. I love the hat! It is awesome. The only possible negative I could come up with is the hat is listed as running large in size and to order a size smaller. I found the hat seems wide still even with ordering a size smaller than my measurements. If I wasn't bald then this may not be an issue haha but I got creative with the hat sizers and now have a great fit.

The hat is every bit as nice as advertised. However, the advertised size did not fit my 7-3/4 head, binding front and rear. They quickly replaced this with a size 8 that I am able to use (a little stuffing in the inner band), however I had to pay the return shipping for the first hat.

Our 18-yr old grandson wanted this hat for over a year, so he was excited to get it for Christmas. He loves it. The first one was too big (he supposedly measured). No problem returning and reordering. Second one is still a little big, but he says he's okay with it. Looks very handsome! Excellent quality and looks.

I'll start by saying I wish men wearing dress hats would make a strong comeback. But this top hat was purchased to complete my look for a black tie wedding and it did the job. I received compliments from the time I arrived until the time I departed from the event. I may have even out shined the groom, unintended of course.

The only negatives were a small hiccup in shipping, should have realized I could have gone a couple miles to a brick and mortar store to purchase it but you know how we men are find it online, buy it, job completed just wait for it to arrive. Should have paid extra for shipping as the USPS didn't specify where they delivered it to, causing me to waste half a day tracking the package down since I needed the hat the very next day for the wedding. Other than that please know that when they say this hat runs large they actually mean it, first time in the history of my hat buying that I had to consider returning a hat because it was a little too large for my head, but I didn't want to risk running to the store to exchange it for a smaller size and not being happy with the tighter fit. Needles to say it sat comfortably on my head and did not cause me any headaches due to it being to tight and cutting off the blood circulation. Very satisfied with my purchase and the customer service was adequate in resolving the misplaced parcel but they could have been a little more helpful to begin with.

All in all I'd buy from them again just will pay extra for a tracking number, which it turns out it had to begin with but I was told at first there was no way to track the package since I chose the free ground delivery. Thankfully I had free Google protection which I think made them add a tracking number to the ground delivery.

I belong to an organization that requires me to wear a Top Hat on certain occasions. I find it hard to take someone seriously while love this hat and so does everyone who sees it. The quality is remarkable they're donning a Top Hat, but this model here actually makes me look bad ass!! I considering the price and I believe it's made in the UK. Customer service is unsurpassed! I had to exchange it for a different size and the process was fast and hassle free. Can't say enough about this company, they are awesome.

Received my hat and it was unfortunately the wrong size. I drove to the Long Beach store and exchanged it for the Medium. I did use the sizing chart, but since the Jaxon hats only use S-M-L I knew that this might happen. Exchange went well no issues and I also picked up the Bowler.

The DeadMan doesn't feel quite as comfortable as the bowler but I will keep it and break it in just the same. The girls suggested to Scotch-guard the hat as well as keep them brushed. The hats are well made and I really like them.

Ordered the Dead Man top hat for a Christmas gift for my brother. Arrived quickly and very nice quality. He was very surprised.

Really IS a terrific hat. My husband is hard to fit, as he has a LARGE head (8 - 8.25 size) and when I saw that the hat runs large, I had hopes that I had FINALLY found him a hat for the Civil War reenactments and events we attend. I ordered him the XL.

Alas, the hat did NOT fit. Nope. It was TOO BIG! That was a first! Contacted Village Hat Shop and explained. They told me to send the original order back and put in an order for another hat. The new hat arrived in just 2 days and fits PERFECTLY! He now has a perfect appearance for a civilian Civil War gentleman from the South.

Very nice hat. The tapered crown really makes it stand out. My new daily wear. They do run a bit on the larger size - nothing a thin strip of leather couldn't fix under the hat band.

Super customer service. The size I needed was out of stock, and, after inquiring, I was told it would be months before they got any. To my surprise, a couple of weeks later I got an e-mail saying that there was a newly arrived - but small - shipment received. Order place - shipping was above standard - ordered on Friday - got it Monday - that's faster than Amazon Prime!

I bought the deadman top hat afew years ago when it came the size ran big had to send back they were great, about the exchange .so this is a great hat I used a hole punch and put a leather strap to keep it on while riding my Harley lots of hey cool hat I want it ..it's been over eighty thousand miles rain,sun,even snow still good as new except a little fading from the sun on top .. Oh and the dead bugs in front love this hat best hat I have ever owned going to buy another one,just in case they stop selling it .buy one Wear it you won't be sorry ;)

Love the style and look. Quality is top notch for the price. Fitting has been somewhat problematic as the hat, out of necessity of design, is quite rigid and unforgiving if head shape doesn't fit exactly. Stuffing inner headband helps, but voids at sides causes imbalance, as well as causing crown to sit completely down on top of my head. A spacer of some sort must be put in place to keep the hat at correct level. Still fooling with it, but will work it out.

My husband picked this hat for our wedding, but he said he will be wearing it to other events as well after our big day! Great look and fit, well worth the price!

So, I'll start of by saying I love this hat! I went to a local western shop and got fitted for my hat size, which is 7 3/8 round. Ordered a Lg size hat, but immediately emailed my size to Village and told them to send what they believed would fit best. They tested out the hats and ended up sending a Med, which fits great. Great hat, for a great price, and i experienced quick and courteous customer service.

I have been looking for a hat like this for years. I mentioned it to one of my daughters and she sent me the link to Village Hats with a picture of the "Deadman Top Hat." Needless to say, THIS is the hat that I have been looking for. The quality is beyond words! Halloween is coming up and I can't wait to use it with my costume. The hat showed up sooner than I expected, and was packaged very well. The hat was in perfect condition.

They hand picked a size for me, which was a size smaller than I had ordered, but closer to the size I needed I assume. It's a little tight right now, but it will stretch a little over time I assume.

When it gets cooler out I will be wearing it a lot. Right now it's just too hot to wear around, unfortunately.

I'd reorder from them again I a heartbeat, because of customer service, the product quality, and the timely fashion in which it arrived. Sadly with it being too hot I can't give it a proper review just yet. I'll let you know in another review at a later date.

Very sharp looking hat, made of very stiff material and the sizes do tend to run big, as some other reviewers have noted.

This particular hat also sits high, so if you have an elongated head, it may be too short for you. The flat top of the hat rests on the top of my skull when I wear it.

A very good-looking top hat that's not overstated, but I had to reorder the hat due to sizing issue. Make sure to order a size or 2 lower than you're used to.

I am very pleased with the quality of the Deadman Topper but if you are thinking about buying one, keep in mind that the sizes run large.

I normally wear a large (7 3/8") but ordered a medium after reading the website information and reviews. The hat is still a bit oversized, both front to back (slightly) and side to side (a whole lot).

Rather than return the hat for a smaller size, I decided to pad the lining to custom fit it to my (probably oddly-shaped) bean.

The fit, while a size small in L, XL, XXL, is EXCELLENT! The warnings about the fit are plain to see and therefore no problem at all. This hat fits so well, heavy wind, speeding vehicles, nothing loosens this hat once it's on. This hat is QUITE a head turner! If you do not like attention, don't buy this hat. While this type of hat ( and the derby or Bowler) were quite popular in days gone by, now they are seen mostly on stage and that's a shame. This is a beautiful, extremely well made hat that looks good any time in any place. I wear mine frequently and don't care about the stares - they're all jealous, and they wish they had such a hansom hat. My wife has " borrowed" my Deadman a few times, I try to keep that to a minimum though, she's far too sexy in it. Sexy's not a word I'd use to describe myself in it though... The hat takes on an entirely different look when worn by a Woman, the lines subtlety change,& it's far less masculine.

The hat is a little big although I ordered it this way. I love the hat and all the compliments I get from people on the street. I would recommend Villae Hat's to everyone and especially the Deadman Top Hat.

Finding any quality hat to fit me seemed futile till I came across this Jaxon Hat. My size 8 head was just too big for most hats. I was happy to find what I was looking for and have it shipped quickly in time for a "steampunk" wedding I was attending. I received many complements on the hat. The hat is very durable, and with care, should last many, many years. Very well constructed & comfortable.

I normally wear a size 7 (22") but I went with a "Small" based on the reviews and I'm glad I did - fits great with a tiny bit of extra room. It came carefully packaged and looks perfect - no quality issues at all. I love it!

People stop me in the street to ask where I got this hat! It wears like any rigid top hat. If you are not comfortable with the space on the side of the head, it can be filled in. I have used the soft fur like side of velcro tape to do this with other hats.... Going out with Deadman Top Hat is always fun...

Nice quality, great look, but would only fit someone with a perfectly round head. This fit fine from front to back, but there was at least a half inch gap on each side, possibly more. This hat is rigid in shape, so there was no adjustment for fit. Too bad, as this was the exact design and look I was after. Sent it back.

I love the hat. I've received compliments just about every time I've worn it out, which is often. It is sized a bit large but with double tape and a strip of felt all is well.

I've always loved Victorian style, I'm never seen without a vest and pocket watch. As a collector of hats I had to have this amazingly priced Deadman's Top Hat. Once again Village Hat Shop did not disappoint! This top hat is brilliantly made and looks incredible. The hat ribbon was attached poorly so that it folded in on itself at a certain point. It's generally anchored poorly for the hat. Too bad I left the receipt at the shop. Other than that, a quite nice hat.

the hat itself is an easy 5-star buy. however, the entire line is mislabeled for size, so I ended up having to return the first one I got (extra $$ wasted on return shipping, makes the net price too high for my liking), not to mention having to wait another week for a replacement to arrive (missed the occasion I was buying for) - minus two stars for that. if you decide to purchase this product, confidently buy one full size smaller than you normally would, save yourself some aggravation.

I bought this for a Halloween costume, then ended up wearing it for the rest of the weekend, as it is just such a great hat. I plan to wear it for other festive occasions as I received a lot of nice compliments. The only thing I would advise is that I measured my head and got a large - according to the sizing chart - but that was too big so I exchanged it for a medium. It still just kind of rides on the head, rather than being snug, but that seems to be the style of the hat. I would very much recommend this to anyone looking for a cool and unique hat.

1st I just wanted to say that the speed of the delivery and the customer service is Outstanding!!! I couldn't wait to get it out of the box. I tried it on and it fit perfectly. My 17 year old son tried it on, a girl friend of his tried it on and then my 19 year old son tried it on and we ALL said "that hat is sooo you"! I collect hats and my oldest son literally hated the idea of wearing one himself. He thought he would look stupid in any and all hats. However, he loved it so much (especially the fact that everyone confirmed that he looks great in it) that I asked him if he wanted it. It has been 3 weeks now and he has only taken it off to go to bed. I just ordered another one for myself. :)

Bought as a prop hat the Deadman Top Hat fit the bill and will last for a long time. It appears that with the proper care and avoiding inclement weather that it will retain its shape for ever. I may update the review after the hat has seen some life, but for the price it is absolutely better than I expected it to be. Though it may not be a 5 star hat for overall quality, it is definitely a 5 star hat within its price range.

Love Jaxon hats but this one is was hard for me to get correct size. This Hat is a very Hard hat. (meaning it is inflexible) medium was too large, small was to small, will try hat stretcher and post results later. Great hat just need correct size

My wife gave me my first Deadman for Xmas '13. She bought me a large and it was a bit big. It fit my son perfectly. I bought another one in size medium and it fits perfectly. Now I have an excuse for a new frock coat. XD Shipping is also lightning fast.

Received the hat and it had what looked like manufacturing spots imbedded in the felt. Contacted customer service, and they arranged for a replacement. Customer service called me and told me this hat was hand picked for me and it was on the way. Received hat and was very pleased. I chose size small, and I am closer to 6 3/4. We ordered this hat for the character of John Wilkes Booth in our production of Assassins, and when it came, everyone was so impressed with the look and quality of it that I ordered one for myself, just because it was that great. I only wish the interior band were leather instead of vinyl, but i realize that at this price point, that's nothing to complain about.

Size runs large! This hat runs large just like the Jaxon English Derby. Just like the English Derby, after wearing it for about two days, it stretched nicely on its own to conform to my head. I usually wear a large, or a 7 3/8. Also, like the English Derby, one is getting a tremendous value at the price. I absolutely love the look of this hat. It feels as if it wears a bit too shallow, but looks just fine. That took some getting used to. (Not as much of an issue when worn squarely on the crown)

It's just as I expected. A fine, good looking piece of clothing. I'm an American that is enchanted with the English. The Village didn't let me down. I'm not surprised. Any company that offers so much info to their customers has nothing to hide. I got the hat today and it was just as I expected. In a world of baseball caps it's nice to see men in respectable, interesting hats. I like old movies. Look at the hats we used to wear. What the bloody hell happened to us? For as long as I live I will be a customer of ""Village"". There are two more hats that hold my interest. I'll be ordering again soon.

nothing more to say, this hat surpassed any expectation I had, price point was inline or a little less than anywhere else and customer service delivered on their promise to have it in my hands when I needed it. Why shop anywhere else. Customer Service even went above and beyond by calling to confirm that yes the exact hat I wanted was in stock and ready to ship. No run around only to find out later that it was back ordered. My business is here to stay.

This is probably one of my favorite hats I own. The only complaint I have is that the Jaxon sizing really does run large. I ordered this in a large, (I wear a 7 3/8) and by the fit, I would guess the hat is a 7 1/2 or 7 5/8. Otherwise, it is absolutely bleeding cool.

I am always hesitant about ordering clothes over the internet, not being able to try them on and all. However, the guide on village hat shop was dead on. My only complaint, and I assume I can fix this, is that the hat seems to be made for someone with a completely round head. It fits, but only if I can push the sides in a bit.

Nice hat,love it. size ran a little big but slipped a little paper in inside head band and now it fits nice. Cool looking riding around in my 1931 Ford ! P.S. service was great ,hat came one day early .

Very nice and cute. I also measured my head and the size I bought is still a tad big, or maybe it is the shape of my head with it being tight in front and the sides a little loose. But with a liner added under the sweat band it will be fine. Love the hat !

The product is beautiful. Just like the photo. This hat runs BIG. I should have ordered a medium. I put a strip of inside the hatband and it fits fine now. The hat makes a statement where ever I wear it.

As a costume designer, finding a good period hat is not always easy. This is the first time I used the Village hat shop. I was very please with the quality of the hat. It met my expectations in all aspects and looks great on stage.

This is such a great looking hat. It has all the personality of a top hat without looking at all ridiculous or over-the-top. It gets a lot of attention while still managing to be appropriate (if just barely) with professional/business attire when I go to work (it works great with slacks/shirt/tie/vest, at least in California). The sizing was big. I usually wear a 7-3/4 and the XL was the right choice for me. It also does fit a little rounder than other similarly sized hats, but nothing I couldn't adjust with a hat-jack and a little steam. Well worth it for such a striking hat. The feather is nice, but I'm not a feather guy, so I took mine out. There's really nothing else like this. It is a great hat!

This is a very sharp hat for all occasions. As with a lot of other customers, I found my hat a little big too. It will do but I think I will get a band for the inside to make it a little more snug. But a well made hat for sure.

It's been a pleasure to deal with their knowledgeable, courteous staff. I recommend them to anyone!

This is a really nice and unique hat. Seeing that so many people said that the hat ran a bit large, even though I usually wear a medium (also according to the sizing chart) I ordered a small. The small was just a tad snug but I applied steam to the hat with a clothes steamer (steam from a tea kettle would work also) around the hat and on top to loosen it up the wore it for a while so that it conformed to my head. Now it feels and fits great. Instead of adding more lining or hat fitters to a hat that's too big I think you buyers out there should order a size smaller, and if it doesn't fit right steam the hat and you'll have a hat that fits perfectly all on it's own. I enjoy this hat with a black mole jacket and red scarf, makes me feel like a Christmas caroler, LOL. I have a thin hair line and hats is loose with my true size but a little stuffing inside band and all is well.

Appearance on arrival just like the photo online. Fit was a little big, but not a real problem. I ordered a large.

I have put off purchasing this hat for over a year. I was perplexed about some of the comments I had read in the reviews, such as, fits too big, too round and not shaped like a normal head. I was afraid I may look a bit silly being 66 years old wearing such a hat. With the holidays coming I said what the heck. I normally wear a medium 7 1/8. I ordered a small as so many comments warned about the size being too large. The small fits me perfectly, is comfortable (no odd shape in my hat). I am going to add a twig of holly & berries to the ribbon binding and surprise my wife when we go out for Thanksgiving dinner. Great hat....I hope the wife loves it. I am certain she will get a good laugh when she sees me in it come Thanksgiving.

The hat is perfect, arrived on time and in excellent condition. I was alarmed at the amount of people who found the hat too large in their normal size, but it fit me fine. I'm under the impression that the hat is intended to fit over long hair, and my hair is massive. I'm completely satisfied by the fit I got, and by all the attention that wearing it commands. This hat is seriously a spectacle . . . . Be prepared for everyone to adore it and not be able to take their eyes off of it.

I made the mistake of listening to reviews here and ordered the hat that was slightly smaller than my size. Well, it turns out these hat sizes are EXACTLY as listed. How do I know? I measured them with a tape measure. Please learn how to measure your hat size. Also, it's round because that's how top hats are made. It will eventually break in and fit to your head. /rant Anyways, this hat is awesome and makes a statement in a time when fedoras are all the rage.

It's a really nice hat and I wear it every chance I get to. If there is one gripe it's simply an 1/8 to big when cut my hair. One of the best hats I've owned to date. Thanks village hat shop.

Got this hat for my upcoming wedding. We're doing a Steampunk theme. Great hat. Sizing is off though. I wear a 7 5/8 so I ordered an xl. The hat says xl inside, but it's way too big. Was going to send it back, but for what it was going to cost to send back, it was cheaper to get a hat sizer on amazon..... Though a beautiful hat, I knocked a star off for the inaccurate sizing. If you order this hat, include a note to have someone check the hat for sizing before they ship it. Return shipping is expensive!!!!

I love this hat. It goes with nearly any look...dressed up, down, etc. I wear it on stage with my little acoustic trio Whisky Verbena. This hat actually makes me feel good. It quite possibly has magical properties, but that's unfounded as of yet. I'm also considering changing my name to Jaxon Deadman. (So cool.)I measured my head, but the size was still too big. This is a great hat for asserting your individual style. I alternate between my Deadman, one of my Bowlers, Homburgs or wide-brimmed Fedoras. There isn't a day I don't get stopped by a stranger who tells me he or she loves my style. The Deadman is distinctive and it works great with my Edwardian/contemporary stylings. Mix it up your way, and express yourself with this hat in the equation and you won't be sorry.The only downside was that my particular hat ran a touch larger than the expected 7 3/8 so it isn't fitting quite as snug as my last delicious Scala Classico Derby.

Got this for my son, as a X-mas gift, and i ordered a size to big. but i ordered another and sent the big one back. the new one came before X-mas and all was good. the hat is very nice. looks of high quality and and the cool factor is off the scale. Thanx

I disagree with the other reviews that slam the size of the feather accent. I like that it's somewhat smaller than pictured. If it was any bigger, I'd remove it as it would detract from the impact of the hat itself. My wife may think I look like a refugee from a Charles Dickens novel, but I'm loving this hat.

Love this hat! The sizing does run a tad large so I added a folded bandana around the inside lining. (I pre-ordered a small off the website - glad I waited instead of thinking maybe I could do with altering a larger size!) It fits comfortably and I have no fear of it tumbling off my head in the wind. It is stiff, but know that it wouldn't have that unique shape if it were any softer. I don't get many chances to wear a unique hat like this - I live in the sticks - but when I do get out in a crowd it is noticeable!

I LOVE this hat! I bought it to go with my Steampunk outfits and has been a perfect complement. It is a very sturdy construction and is beautifully lined. I bought a small since I have a little head but purchased the hat sizers as well. I'm glad I did since the hat is a little round. I fits snugly but comfortably. I've worn it all day and it stays on and doesn't slide around. It says that the feathers come off but I haven't figured out how. I bought a ostrich feather hat clip that easily attached to the band. I wears this hat often and always get complements. I would recommend it to anyone.

This is a really cool looking hat, I am very happy with it. It does run big, get a size smaller than your normal hat size!! As far as the reviews that say the shape is too round and fits funny, I have had stiff hats like this before such a bowlers. If you wear the crap out of it it will conform to the shape of your head, or get the hat sizer Village Hat Shop sells and take up the slack. Any hat like this is going to feel stiff to begin with, you just have to break it in. Dare to be different!!-Cheers

I got one of these hats with the intention of using in a video and I must say, the quality is excellent. Looks just like the photos. One problem is that I ordered 2 hats, the other one was a Bailey ""News boy"" cap, and both were ordered in the large size. the Newsboy cap fits fine but the Deadman hat I can fit my thumb in the gap left around my head. Same size, so I will need a smaller size for this model. A good idea would be a printable inside dimension template that folk can download and cut out, place over their head and each manufacturer can provide the exact template..just a thought.Apart from that folks, A1 service.

A very classy, very distinctive look. Brings a modern aspect to an old design. Sort of a cross between elegance and steampunk. Had a little trouble with the size, though; it's wider than I expected in comparison to its length, but I just added some padding behind the sweatband and all is well.

Even though I took proper care to make sure I got the right size (Large), when I first put it on it was resting on the top of my head. I've head to fight with it a fair bit to get it to fit (I put the foam that comes in the packaging around the inside) and once it finally did, it wasn't terribly comfortable. All that said, it's a beautiful looking hat, and feels very durable, just wish I could wear it more.

I can put my whole hand between the hat and my head (perhaps a little exagerated, but not much) I ordered the ""deadman "" instead od the ""Victorian "" because of the size availability (Victorian was available in only small/med. while the deadman was available in small, but not small enough as it turns out). Great hat: made well, looks good, good quality, BUT a little on the large side.

Great hat fun to wear

This hat is exactly what I wanted. Good quailty workmanship at a reasonable price.As I read some earlier reviews about how the hat was made in a circle instead of an oval it occured to me to buy some hat ""sizers"" at the same time. After installing them on the sides of the hat, the hat fit perfectly. I will frequent the Village Hat Shop again.

Mine came today and i am thrilled. Having an oddly shaped head I will need to make minor adjustments . But, that is to be expected. I will be ordering more hats from Village. For the price the quality cannot be beaten.

I bought this hat to wear during Christmas - that time of the year just seems like it's made for wearing top hats - must be because of Dickens! This hat is solid and well-made. I took the feather off, but saved it in case I ever need one for another hat because the feather was so beautful. You wear this hat out in town and everyone will be admiring you. It was a wonderful style back in the late 1800's and it's still a wonderful style today.

Ever since I saw Johnny Depp in the 1995 western-style movie ""DEAD MAN"" when I was 10 years old, I thought it was a Great Movie. When I was 15 year's old I saw the Movie again and this time I was able to understand it more and it just amazed me! This movie is also my cousin's favorite movie and has even spent a few Halloween's dressed as Johnny Depp's William Blake. His Costume was Perfect! Only one thing was not perfect was his hat. Johnny Depp's hat in ""DEAD MAN"" is one of my all-time Favorite Hat's, I spent 2 week's looking for it online and when I found it on VillageHatShop.com I Immediately hit the ""Add to Cart"" Button. Then On June 27th, 2011 My Jaxon DEADMAN Top Hat Came in the Mail. It Looked Beautiful! Ever since I got I, I put it on and feeling like William Blake Himself. My Cousin is also happy that I got it and still hope's to wear it on his head too. My advice for those who want to purchase this hat I give you this: This is one of the Best Hat's You will EVER Wear! It's style is amazing and look's good on anyone. But know this: after I did some research on this hat I found out It was designed my Johnny Depp Himself, and I believe he designed it for those who have long hair. A good length of 4 or 9 inches will give you Johnny Depp's Style like in the movie when you wear the hat. I do hope this review help's make your decision on buying this hat because IT IS AMAZING! It was Even Designed by Johnny Depp, who wouldn't want a Hat that was Designed by Johnny Depp Himself??!! I love the hat- it's a perfect top hat. Sadly, it's round, while heads are oval. If I store it on a hat stretcher, I can comfortably wear it, but it goes back to circular if I don't come home and put it right back on the stretcher. Not terribly convenient. Can't say I'm impressed.

I would like to give this hat a 5-star rating for its appearance, but I'm subtracting 2 stars for its grossly inaccurate sizing and its awkward fit, which to me is a sign of shoddy negligence on the part of the designer & manufacturer. Normally I wear a size between 7 3/4 and 7 7/8, which translates to XXL in ready-made hats, so that is what I ordered. But to my consternation, it turned out to be over-sized, anywhere between 8 1/8 to 8 1/2-- it should be marked XXXL or XXXXL. So, I exchanged it for size XL. While I was impressed by The Village Hat Shop's prompt handling of my return, the smaller size is still a poor fit, still a bit too large. It slides back and forth if I shake my head, but I plan to keep it because I'm tired of paying return postage and because of the hat's good looks. This experience for me casts doubts on any future purchase of a Jaxon hat, as it seems they can't be trusted.

I was reluctant to actually buy this hat, but friends told me, ""If you like it, who cares what others think?"" Well, the first time I wore it, I was invited to a party by a stranger and people kept telling me how much they liked it. This hat will get you noticed. It is a ticket to instant popularity. It is not particularly comfortable, it runs one size too large and it feels stiff, but if you can tolerate the attention - go for it.

I love this hat, and have been looking for one for some time as I don't like the standard 6 plus inch toppers. This is the 3rd hat that I have gotten from Village Hat Shop, and like the other two it is a really good construction one which you would expect to pay at least twice as much if not more for.I can say customer service is great too. I bought this hat for myself first, but it's hard to keep it on my head. Everyone who sees it wants to try it on, then wear it for a while.Eventually I bought one for a family member. I had made a mistake on the size and after reading some reviews decided I may have ordered the wrong size. I quickly had my husband call VHS. He caught them before the hat was shipped but was told it may still be to late depending on where it was in the process, but that she would try.. He doesn't know who he talked to so I can't thank them personally, but he got his hat today and it was the adjusted order, thank you. The hat looks great on him and I'm pretty sure he likes it as he's wearing around the house in nothing but his shorts and old T-shirt...help me. As for the sizing for those wishing to purchase this hat, yes the reviews are correct, this one runs a tad large so figure accordingly. Once again thank you .

This is in fact a wonderful hat, my new favorite, and on the basis of looks, construction, etc. it deserves 5 stars. The only problem with it is that you can't trust the size chart. I wear a 7 1/2, sometimes squeeze into a 7 3/8, and otherwise wear a Large. Based on the size chart I ordered an XL, and found that it was gigantic (there's another review much further down where someone said it was like a 2XL-- wish I'd read that far). It didn't fit, I returned it, and got a Large. This too was huge and I returned it. This time I called, discussed the problem, and a hat was hand-picked for me, and sent with sizing. The third hat is a Large too, but with (and only with) the sizing, finally fit. Praise to the Village Hat Shop for great customer service, but don't trust Jaxon's sizes on this one. I recommend ordering one size smaller than you wear.

Shipping was very fast. It actually arrived a day earlier than expected. When i first tried to put it on my head the hat was actually almost perfectly round. Since most peoples heads aren't actually round, it wasn't a good fit. With a little bit of gentle squeezing i was able to shape the base of the hat to a very nice fit.I do professional photography and shoot weddings fairly frequently. I had been searching for a nice hat to wear with my wedding shoot outfit. This hat is very stylish without being over the top. I have received many compliments on the hat. The part that i really love is that the brim of the hat does not interfere with my camera when i turn it vertically.Incredibly impressed with this company and the hat. I would definitely do business here again.

The perfect hat for a fellow looking for a top hat with out the extra added inches that can make simple tasks like driving difficult.

I didn't want to spend $130 on the John Bull, so when I saw the Jaxson for $40, it was an instant purchase. I like the hat a lot. It's more compact than my $120 Missippi Hat I bought a month ago. The quality is excellent, fits nicely above my ears which is important, and you can dress up or down in this hat. While the world is goin crazy on stingy brim fedoras, the Deadman is distinctive.

A while back I bought the John Bull Topper from Village Hat Shop, and loved the hat. Then a short time ago I saw the Jaxon Deadman top hat online and had to take a gander in person. Although similar in style, the Deaman has a lower profile and look distinctive from its cousin, the John Bull. I bought one and love the fit and design.
