The Army Wool Military Beret with Flash features a half-moon insert at its front emblazoned with the flash patch of the Revolutionary War-era US Continental Army. This US Army flash - officially approved by the United States Army Institute of Heraldry on November 20th, 2000 - is based on the national colors (white stars against a blue field) and the field flag of the Continental Army Commander-in-Chief (light blue with thirteen stars). The thirteen stars symbolize the original thirteen colonies, later turned states.
