With the Shade Sisal Straw Homburg Hat by Renegade we get a fun and contemporary twist on the traditional homburg. The integrity of the silhouette has been maintained with the center dent crown and curled brim, however, the Shade is made of 100% sisal straw that has been crafted into an intricately woven pattern with a novelty vented crown. A snake skin patterned hat band accented with a large concho and feather finishes this stunning piece from Renegade.

I had to have this hat for a wedding that was happening so soon I did not think it would arrive in time. The time crunch is on me. When it arrived a few things were noticeable. The straw weave and pattern is done very nicely. The feather was beat up and not nearly as brilliant as what's displayed. The feather was also detached and loose - Why? Because the concho was not attached correctly to the snakeskin wrap (not quit as colorful as shown, a dull orange), loose and flapping on one end. I provide photos of these issues to Village Hat Shop asking how they can help with this expensive faulty product sold. They tell me to use a hot glue gun (because everyone just has one laying around or wants to pay and extra cost for one) for the concho. Their only response on the feather was that it was removeable. As I had to make it work for the wedding, I improvised without feather but I'm still not happy with the result nor the response. I only add a second star because I recognize the time crunch issue was mine otherwise I would have taken the extra time from my day to return it quickly in disappointed fashion. I find RENEGADE Quality Control lacking. I will not buy a RENEGADE product again and I will have to reconsider purchases overall going forward. Disappointing. A hat this expensive should not come with such issues.
This Homburg is more formal than any other straw hat I can think of, and slightly theatrical for this time in history. But it's ideal for weddings, and fancy outdoor parties, anywhere there's not a tee shirt and ball cap to be seen. It's pretty hip too, not a "country club" thing at all - the haute-bourgeoisie would be mystified as to why that hat showed up on such a nice day. But if the day were sunny, I'd even wear it to Ru Paul's funeral.
Excellent material.
I have a collection of fedoras that are hand woven in Ecuador & made of toquilla straw, so this hat made of shantung straw is definitely different & of lower quality. But this is a really unique hat, and it’s well made for what it is. I’m happy to add it to my collection.
